Keep a Tender Heart

Always Keep A Tender Heart

“Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to JESUS from Jerusalem and asked, “Why do YOUR disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” JESUS replied, “And why do you break the command of GOD for the sake of your tradition? For GOD said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to GOD,’ they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus, you nullify the word of GOD for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “‘These people honor ME with their lips, but their hearts are far from ME. They worship ME in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’” JESUS called the crowd to HIM and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Then the disciples came to HIM and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?” HE replied, “Every plant that MY HEAVENLY FATHER has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” Peter said, “Explain the parable to us.” “Are you still so dull?” JESUS asked them. “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.” – [Matthew 15:1-20]

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it?” – [Jeremiah 17:9]

“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.” – [Proverbs 14:30]

Israel always had the same problems down through the centuries. It was hardness of heart.

“Man looks on the outward appearance, but GOD looks on the heart.” – [Samuel 16:7]

JESUS in Matthew 15 was really in application for us today making a comparison of Outward Morality versus Inward Godliness.

KEY – is to have a tender heart. The world says have an open mind, but Biblically we should always have a Tender Heart.

“GOD Tests our hearts and minds.” – [Psalm 7:9]

“The statures of THE LORD are right – rejoicing the heart.” – [Psalm 19:8]

“Examine my Heart.” – [Psalm 26:2]

“Search me O GOD, and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – [Psalm 139:23,24]

“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he…” – [Proverbs 23:7]

1.SALVATION – Lydia in Acts 16:14,15 – GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT always makes the heart of an unsaved person tender before saving them.

“One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of GOD. THE LORD opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in THE LORD,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.” – [Acts 16:14,15]

AT THE HEART OF EVERY PROBLEM IS THE PROBLEM OF THE HEART.

2.MARRIAGE –

“When JESUS had finished saying these things, HE left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. Large crowds followed HIM, and HE healed them there. Some Pharisees came to HIM to test HIM. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?” “Haven’t you read,” HE replied, “that at the beginning THE CREATOR ‘made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what GOD has joined together, let no one separate.” “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away.” JESUS replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But It was not this way from the beginning. I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” – [Matthew 19:1-9]

3.FELLOW CHRISTIANS AND OTHERS –

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in CHRIST GOD forgave you.” – [Ephesians 4:32]

“When you meet together, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as you praise THE LORD with all your heart.” – [Ephesians 5:19]

4.WORKING REALATIONSHIPS-

“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey CHRIST. Obey them not only to sin their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of CHRIST, doing the will of GOD from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving THE LORD, not people, because you know that THE LORD will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that HE who is both their MASTER and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with HIM.” – [Ephesians 6:5-9]

“Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing GOD.” – [Colossians 3:22]

5.SERVICE OF/TO GOD –

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of GOD’S mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to GOD—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what GOD’S will is—HIS good, pleasing and perfect will.” – [Romans 12:1-2]

“Try to please them at all times, and not just when you think they are watching. You are slaves of CHRIST, so with your whole heart you must do what GOD wants you to do.” – [Ephesians 6:6]

“I have hidden YOUR word in my heart that I might not sin against YOU.” – [Psalm 119:11]

“Honor CHRIST and let HIM be THE LORD of your life. Always be ready to give an answer when someone asks you about your hope.” – [1 Peter 3:15]

CONCLUSION:

•Sin makes hearts hard and stony. When we do something wrong we feel guilty because our heart is sensitive to sin. However, if we don’t confess and forsake our sin to GOD and change our behavior, the next time we sin, we don’t feel as guilty as the first time. Eventually, our heart will become hardened, and we will feel little or no guilt about our sin. That kind of living leads to a life closed to THE HOLY SPIRIT’S conviction.

•When we are tempted to play down the seriousness of a sin and ignore THE HOLY SPIRIT’S conviction, stop immediately and ask GOD to forgive you. Doing this will help your heart remain sensitive to HIS leading.

•“Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.” – [Proverbs 4:23]
